Job Description and Requirements

GENERAL FUNCTION 

The Senior Director of Operations for the “USAID Strengthening Civil Society and Media Systems Activity (Sawt)” will be responsible for oversight of the Activity’s financial management, grants management, procurements, and administrative duties with local entities. The Senior Director of Operations position will be located in Amman and will report to the Chief of Party. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are listed below; other duties may be assigned. 

  • Directly supervise the Grants Manager and oversee the grants program under Sawt, including the development of the Grants Management Plan, overseeing the life cycle of all grants, securing HQ and funder approvals, training all program and grants staff on grants manual and grants management system, and ensuring the grants department is efficient and effective.  
  • Directly supervise Finance Manager and oversee all core functions of the finance department, including internal and funder financial reporting, compliance with funder and Internews policies on cost allowability and efficiencies, payroll and tax reporting, organizational, funder and government audit requirements, and banking. 
  • Directly supervise the Operations Manager and oversee all operations and functions related to the procurement of goods and services, office management, IT solutions, and travel required for implementation of activities. 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for legal counsel and tax advisor for maintaining Sawt project registration, necessary POAs, all required approvals from the Government of Jordan and fulfillment of tax filings, annual reports and audit requirements. 
  • Any other related duties assigned by the Chief of Party to ensure program success.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience of minimum 10 years. 

Experience 

  • Minimum 7- years management experience 
  • 7+ years’ experience managing grants programs 
  • 7+ years’ working in financial management 
  • 7+ years’ experience working with INGOs in Jordan  
  • Strong knowledge of USAID donor regulations and requirements 

Skills 

  • Native Arabic speaker. 
  • Fluency in English (both spoken and written).  
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in teams and in a collaborative environment. 
  • Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented and flexible work style. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software. 
  • Appreciation of and ability to work effectively in diverse work environments. 

 

Ability and permission to work and reside in Jordan without Internews sponsorship.
