                       Licensed Clinical Psychologist                                                              Full-Time contract

Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, which opened in 2006, is giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic, and maxillo-facial) to war-wounded people providing comprehensive health care, MSF aims at identifying and referring patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts) then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

Médecins Sans Frontières Reconstructive Surgery program in Amman is seeking a (1) Licensed Clinical Psychologist for a Full-Time contract.

DIMENSION OF POST

The Reconstructive Surgery Hospital provides specialized surgical and rehabilitation care, with an average of 550 admissions and over 1,000 surgeries annually. The facility has 72 surgical beds and 126 rehabilitation beds, as well as two operating theatres dedicated to orthopedic, maxillofacial, and plastic reconstructive surgeries. The hospital also includes an outpatient department (OPD) providing an average of 550 consultations per month, physiotherapy and psychosocial support services, and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) activities, including Antimicrobial Stewardship, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), and a microbiology laboratory.

MAIN PRUPOSE

Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF principles, standards and procedures to improve the patients’ mental health.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Carrying out the evaluation of the mental health needs of patients and establishing a diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals whenever necessary, to provide the most appropriate treatment and improve the patient's condition
• Implementing the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible victims of SGBV, and referring them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treatment.
• Providing psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols to improve their mental health conditions
• Assisting and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close collaboration with translators to ensure appropriate terminology and behavior during sessions
• Collecting statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities
• Informing the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective
• Ensuring that all patient information is kept confidential.

Context Specific Accountabilities

• Providing psychological care to patients and family caretakers, through individual or group sessions, to help them to cope with their situation, to reinforce their social and environment adaptability and to engage themselves in their own recovery through psychological support
• S/he oversees designing and implementing treatment plan and follow up for the patients in need of psychotherapy.

Clinical supervision

• Conduct clinical psychotherapy based on the individual needs and abilities of the patient and family caretaker.
• Assesse thoroughly the psychological status and needs of the patient referred by the counselor and develop the treatment plan with the MHPSS Manager prior to initiation of the plan.
• Conduct group support if needed for specific groups of patients (amputated, adolescents, parents, etc.)
• Strong collaboration with MHPSS staff, especially with Psychiatrist Consultant (refer patient who need psychiatric care and give feedback about treatment plans and evolution)
• Observes and evaluates patients and family caretakers and makes suggestions for improvement of their support
• Participate in team meetings to share experiences and discuss special cases with other professionals
• Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential.

Reporting

• Transmit to the MHPSS Manager all relevant information.
• Ensure proper recording and filing of individual patient care and of group activities, in writing and in electronic format, according to MSF and to RSP clinical departments’ requirements.
• Prepare confidential report for each patient when treatment is closed or when patient is TRM (End of stay in Amman).
• Ensure reporting about activities and proper data collection as per request of MHPSS Manager.

​Meetings and training

• Attends meetings, training and supervision sessions organized by MSF and other organizations as  requested per MHPSS Manager
• Take active part in training, supervision and supporting the MHPSS Manager, when necessary, in doing sensitization for MSF staff or external partners about mental health issues.

Additionnal activities

• Cover if necessary Psychosocial Counsellor’s tasks
• Join outing or other group activities if needed

• Availability for emergencies.

• • Required, degree or diploma in Psychology
• • Required, holding an MOH license to practice as a psychologist
• • Essential 2 years’ experience minimum as a psychologist
• • Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGOs in developing countries
• • Required, Fluent spoken and written English required.
