Job Summary

INSO is seeking an experienced Information Manager to lead the Afghanistan team’s Information Management function. The role ensures the effective management and use of security and operational data that supports humanitarian organisations operating in complex environments.

The Information Manager oversees key systems such as the Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC) and the INSO Partner Portal, while transforming data into clear visual products—charts, maps, and dashboards—used in reports and analysis.

Working closely with programme teams, partners, and HQ, the Information Manager helps strengthen data systems and workflows that enable humanitarian actors to operate more safely and effectively.

Main responsibilities

Manage the Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC)

  • Act as the country focal point for the Conflict & Humanitarian Data Centre (CHDC).
  • Ensure incidents are correctly categorised, verified, and maintained in line with INSO methodology.
  • Monitor and improve the quality and integrity of security incident data.
  • Train and support INSO staff and Partners on CHDC and its methodology.

Develop Data Visualisations and Analytical Products

  • Transform data into clear and impactful charts, maps, dashboards, and visual products.
  • Support programme teams in using data and visualisations to strengthen reporting and analysis.
  • Improve tools, workflows, and processes used to produce visual outputs.

Manage the INSO Portal and other Platforms

  • Manage the INSO Partner Portal and related platforms.
  • Support partners in accessing and using the Portal and INSO App.
  • Monitor partner registration and ensure the accuracy of partner data.

Lead the Information Management Team

  • Lead and support the Information Management team, ensuring high standards in data management and analysis.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop team members while fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Organise team priorities and delegate tasks to ensure the timely delivery of information products and services.

Coordination and Global Collaboration

  • Coordinate information management activities across the Country Office.
  • Work closely with programme teams to identify data needs and improve information workflows.
  • Work with programme teams to improve information workflows and data use.
  • Contribute to INSO’s global information management initiatives and systems.

Provide IT Support (when applicable)

  • Provide basic IT troubleshooting and user support to staff.
  • Maintain shared information platforms such as SharePoint.
  • Coordinate with HQ IT on technical issues and system updates.

Requirements

Essential

  • Fluency in English and the working language of the CO, both written and verbal.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data management, data visualisation, or information management.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a team.
  • Experience with Power BI and DAX, or similar BI software (such as Tableau).
  • Proficiency in database management using SQL.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or R.
  • Basic knowledge in GIS software and systems (e.g. using QGIS or ArcGIS).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, GIS, or relevant field.
  • Experience working with humanitarian organisations, particularly NGOs operating in complex contexts.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with Persian and/or Pashto
  • Knowledge of the regional context or previous professional experience in the region.
  • Experience delivering training or capacity building related to data or information management tools.

Terms & Conditions

12-month renewable contract, USD 4200 per month salary, 1.75 days annual leave per month, medical coverage.
