Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE
 

The Advocacy Officer plays a crucial role in World Vision’s advocacy efforts, working to influence policy and decision-makers to promote child protection, human rights, and sustainable development. This individual will be responsible for engaging with stakeholders, conducting research, drafting policy briefs, and supporting campaigns aimed at creating lasting change for children and communities. Also, the successful candidate will work closely with communication officers in Jordan, Syria and Turkey to develop and implement communication and advocacy strategy and support communications efforts (proofreading, editing, story writing, situation reports, etc.)

 

MAJOR RESPONCIBILITIES

 

Advocacy Strategy and Planning:

  • Assist in developing and implementing advocacy strategies aligned with World Vision’s global priorities and country-specific needs.
  • Contribute to the creation of key messaging documents that drive policy changes at local, national, and international levels.
  • Support on ad-hoc advocacy messaging and internal Advocacy Response Group (ARG) meetings during emergencies and key moments for the Syria response in coordination together with the communications team.
     

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Organize and participate in meetings, events, and dialogues with stakeholders to advocate for children’s rights and social justice.
  • Attend WV advocacy groups meetings, the SIRF and INGOs forum meetings and updates the management on the meetings outcomes and discussions.

 

Policy Analysis and Research:

  • Assist in conducting in-depth research on child rights, development policies, and humanitarian issues to inform advocacy positions in close coordination with WV Advocacy groups.
  • Identify opportunities for advocacy and policy influence.
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, reports, position papers, and other advocacy materials for internal and external use.


Campaign Support and Implementation:

  • Collaborate in the design and delivery of advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about critical issues affecting children and vulnerable communities.
  • Work together with the communications team on the follow up launch of the ENOUGH campaign at country level.
  • Mobilize support from local communities, partners, and stakeholders for advocacy campaigns.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of advocacy campaigns and recommend improvements.
     

Communication support:

  • Work closely with communications team to develop messaging, media materials, executive alerts and public statements related to advocacy initiatives.
  • Contribute to the creation of content for World Vision’s social media platforms, newsletters, and press releases to raise public awareness on relevant issues.
  • Ensure all relevant media spokespersons are always aware of key advocacy messaging.
     

Capacity Building and Training:

  • Support the capacity-building efforts of local partners, communities, and staff on advocacy strategies, policy analysis, and effective advocacy techniques.
  • Provide training to staff and partners on understanding the policy landscape and engaging effectively with policymakers.

Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor and report on the progress of advocacy efforts, tracking key milestones and outcomes through the Advocacy Strategic Measure (ASM) matrix.
  • Prepare regular updates for internal stakeholders, funders, and partners on advocacy achievements and challenges.

Any other tasks as requested by the manager and regional team.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
 

Required Professional Experience

  • Experience:
    • At least 3-5 years of professional experience in advocacy, public policy, or a related field.
    • Experience working in the development sector or with NGOs, particularly in child rights, human rights, or social justice issues.
    • Experience in writing and producing evidence-based reports and other advocacy and communication resources or publications.
    • Strong knowledge of international development policies, child protection, and humanitarian law is preferred.

 

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in political science, International Relations, Social Sciences, Law, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.


 

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to conduct policy research and analysis.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing and executing advocacy campaigns.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and digital tools for advocacy.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of additional languages is an asset.
  • Works in a systematic and well-organized manner, using own knowledge to deliver on time and to a high standard.
