Watsan Agent - Daily Worker Pool

 

CONTEXT
Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation. Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, which opened in 2006, is giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic, and maxillo-facial) to war-wounded people providing comprehensive health care, MSF aims at identifying and referring patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts) then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

Médecins Sans Frontières Reconstructive Surgery in Amman are seeking a Watsan Agents for our Daily Worker Pool.

DIMENSION OF POST

Reconstructive Surgery Hospital with an average of 550 admissions per year, over 1000 surgeries annually, 72 surgical beds and 126 rehabilitation beds, 2 OTs for orthopedic, maxillo-facial and plastic reconstructive surgeries, OPD with an average 550 consultations / month, physiotherapy and psychosocial department, and Antimicrobial Resistance activity (Stewardship, IPC and Micro laboratory) within the hospital.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operating, monitoring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting the Water Hygiene Sanitation (Watsan) facility and its processes, according to hygiene and sanitation standards and MSF protocols, in order to ensure a proper functioning of Watsan activities to improve the health conditions of the target population.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

         Performing the Watsan day-to-day activities such as collecting and sorting wastes before disposal, keeping the incinerator in good working order, ensuring the cleaning and correct hygiene status of the latrines, cleaning the water storage and treatment tanks, etc.

          Knowing and applying security and hygiene standards regarding the operation of WHS infrastructure, taking care of his/her own safety.

          Informing the line manager and/or technical adviser of any incidents that might compromise his/her (or that of others) safety or security. 

  • Ensuring the availability and correct usage of all material and equipment.

 

MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities 

Waste Segregation & Management

  • Source Segregation: Separate routine operational, hazardous, and medical waste at the point of generation using color-coded containers in compliance with hygiene guidelines.
  • Daily Inspections: Conduct daily audits of all site collection points to ensure strict compliance with segregation protocols.

 

Medical Waste Handling & Handover

  • Safe Storage: Collect and secure medical waste in designated holding areas pending disposal
  • Accurate Tracking: Weigh all medical waste containers with calibrated scales and log the exact quantities in the tracking logbook.
  • Contractor Handover: Coordinate waste transfers exclusively with authorized disposal contractors, ensuring all chain-of-custody forms and transfer receipts are signed and filed.

 

Facility Cleanliness & Sanitation

  • Perimeter Maintenance: Conduct daily grounds checks to clear litter around building perimeters and external areas.
  • Storage Zone Upkeep: Maintain waste storage areas in a sanitized, organized, and hazard-free condition at all times.
  • Equipment Hygiene: Clean and sanitize all water dispensers on a monthly basis.

 

Reporting & Monitoring

  • Daily Status Logs: Submit daily reports detailing overall waste management operations and segregation compliance levels.

                       WORK LOCATION:         Amman, Jordan

  • CONTRACT:                   In case of current contract with MSF, amendment to the original contract with the same terms and conditions, with modifications on function and salary only.
