The primary responsibility is supervising community volunteers and the frontline staff.

 

Position Summary

The MHPSS Officer is responsible for the implementation and field-level coordination of psychosocial support activities targeting youth aged 16–24 and caregivers. The Officer will support group sessions, awareness campaigns, and youth-led advocacy initiatives in partnership with ministries and other implementing actors. The role includes supervision of volunteers and frontline staff, quality assurance of sessions, referrals, data tracking, and inter-agency coordination.

 

 

 

Project Overview

 

The IMPACT project is a national initiative implemented targeting youth aged 16–24 across all Jordan governorates. It aims to promote mental health literacy, reduce stigma, increase early help-seeking behaviors, and empower youth through structured MHPSS sessions, digital advocacy, and institutional capacity-building of frontline actors.

 

Coordinates with

Senior MHPSS Officer, MHPSS Officers, Community Volunteers, Frontline Trainers, MEAL Officer, Partnership Officer, Information Management Officer, staff from selected CBOs and national NGOs, focal points from youth hubs, and relevant inter-agency coordination platforms.

 

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities

1. Technical and Programmatic Implementation

  • Supervise and coach community volunteers and CBO staff delivering structured MHPSS group sessions for youth (16–24), caregivers, and frontline actors.
  • Facilitate and monitor delivery of 8 structured MHPSS group sessions for youth across selected  youth centers and CBOs.
  • Support 600 caregivers through participatory sessions focused on adolescent mental health, stigma reduction, and co-creation of supportive practices.
  • Supervise and coach community volunteers and ministry facilitators delivering youth mental health sessions.
  • Ensure sessions follow UNICEF’s mental health curriculum and IASC MHPSS standards, and that safe, inclusive, and youth-friendly spaces are maintained.
  • Support the execution of “Mood Up” kickoff events and mental health literacy outreach across selected governorates.
  • Ensure implementation of youth-focused MHPSS curricula as per UNICEF guidelines (emotional literacy, stress management, coping skills, help-seeking).
  • Monitor session quality, adherence to session guides, and alignment with IASC standards for MHPSS in humanitarian settings.
  • Lead or support Psychological First Aid (PFA), basic psychosocial skills, and mhGAP community-level training for frontline workers and youth center staff.

2. Coordination & Partnership

  • Coordinate with local partners, youth centers, and NGOs to roll out MHPSS services in targeted geographic areas.
  • Liaise with the implementing partners, selected CBOs, and NNGOs to execute MHPSS interventions.
  • Support community engagement, peer outreach, and referral mechanisms in coordination with youth hubs or focal points.

 

3. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning

  • Collect and analyze pre/post-assessments, feedback forms, attendance sheets, and session reports.
  • Collaborate with the MEAL department to monitor changes in knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) among youth participants.
  • Contribute to monthly and donor narrative reporting with field-based insights and technical summaries.

4. Training & Capacity Building

  • Conduct ongoing technical mentorship and supportive supervision for volunteers, frontline actors, and local partners on MHPSS delivery.
  • Facilitate structured refresher trainings, debriefings, and learning circles to enhance field quality and program ownership.
  • Support the Senior MHPSS Officer and the MHPSS Manager in designing and implementing the capacity building plan.

5. Administration and Compliance

  • Prepare PDFs, payment documentation, and materials for MHPSS activities in line with project budget lines.
  • Ensure safe, inclusive, and youth-friendly spaces are maintained during all MHPSS activities.
  • Promote adherence to safeguarding, child protection, and Do No Harm principles in all interactions.

 

Person Specification

 

Qualification / Experience

Vocational qualification

University degree in psychology, clinical psychology, educational psychology, counselling psychology, or mental health nursing.

 

A master’s degree and/or specialized diploma in the mental health or mental health nursing field is preferred.  

Work experience

Over 4 years of relevant post-qualification professional experience.

 

Experience in MHPSS projects, Psychology, or social work

Experience working in a humanitarian emergency context

Experience in partnership and community-based programming. preferably with youth or adolescents, and in donor-funded humanitarian settings

Languages

Very good English (speaking & written)

Native Arabic speaker

 

IT

Familiar with Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word, Excel, and Outlook.
