The GIZ Jordan Project The Jordanian-German Energy Partnership is seeking to hire an “Energy Advisor” based in Jordan- for full-time base employment.

To promote cooperation between Germany and Jordan in the field of renewable energies, the German Energy Agency (dena) has set up a local secretariat based in the Ministry of Energy (MEMR). The Secretariat ensures direct communication between dena and MEMR and represents dena in Jordan.

The most important tasks of the Secretariat are the stakeholder management of public and private actors, the organization of events in Jordan and the monitoring and reporting of energy policy developments in the country. It operates in close coordination with dena in Berlin and is integrated into GIZ's Water & Energy Cluster in Jordan.

Qualifications and specialist knowledge

  • Post-graduate university degree (M.Sc., M.A. or equivalent) in engineering, business engineering, economics, policy, or a related field
  • Business fluency in English and Arabic
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the energy sector, preferred in policy, strategy; professional experience in the private energy sector would be an additional asset
  • Experience in international cooperation
  • Experience of working within or consulting to Jordanian government institutions
  • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • Managerial, teamwork and organizational skills
  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed

Main Responsibilities

  • Independently manage activities for running of the secretariat of the Jordanian German Energy Partnership (EP) within the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR). The tasks have to be performed under the lead of the German Energy Agency “Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena)”. The core task is to establish a trustful working relationship with the political partner MEMR.
  • Facilitate regular virtual exchanges with dena, draft reports, write concept notes, prepare virtual and in-person meetings and events with other stakeholders of the energy sector in Jordan.
  • Monitor and analyze energy policy developments in Jordan and Germany, and, to a lesser extent, in Europe and the MENA regions
  • Execute the monitoring, evaluation and reporting to the commissioning party and the regular reporting and coordination with the GIZ Water & Energy Cluster in Jordan.
  • Provide insides of MEMR policies and strategies, as well as of operational issues to other energy-related projects, implemented by GIZ.
  • Contribute to the knowledge management and public communication of GIZ.
  • Comply with the core values and modes of delivery of GIZ.
