What we are looking for

Strategy and technical expertise in Education programming work with displaced populations in humanitarian context, preferably in a protracted crisis and or recovery context.

Education programme design and implementation experience in urban displacement setting and/or camps setting with experience in policy and advocacy work, external coordination with humanitarian and development donors. 

Experience in building partnerships as well as engaging and managing various stakeholders, including external relations and a fundraising background.

Innovativeness and ability to challenge status quo, bringing positive change while keeping in mind the needs of the beneficiaries.

Strong analytical skills and proficiency with data collection and analysis. Good knowledge of the context in Jordan and/or neighbouring or similar countries, with a broad understanding of the Syria crisis.

What you will do

The Education Specialist is responsible for the setting the strategic direction of NRC Jordan’s Education programme, advocating on relevant policy and advocacy issues and leading on fundraising for the strategy. 

The Specialist also works with NRC’s implementation teams in the field to ensure the program is technically sound and adapts to the context and programmatic quality and learning. The roleholder is also responsible for mentoring, training, and capacity development of staff on education technical capacity.

The job entails:

  1. Developing education strategy, technical guidance and Macro LFAs.
  2. Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures.
  3. Contributing to fundraising, develop and revise funding proposal, budgets and donor reports. 
  4. Identifying trends technical standards and donor priorities.
  5. Following up on compliance with contractual commitments within CC, ensure high technical quality and synergies in project implementation.
  6. Providing technical direction and project implementation support .
  7. Ensuring that key learning is extracted from education CC implementation, and incorporate them in education CC and staff development processes.
  8. Providing systematic training and build capacity of technical staff.
  9. Representing NRC in relevant forums/clusters, including with national authorities and donors.
  10. Promoting the rights of returnees in line with the advocacy strategy.

What you will bring

  • Minimum 6 years of professional experience related to Education programming development, including technical expertise working in a protracted crisis and or recovery context. 
  • Experience designing and implementing Education programs in urban displacement setting and/or camps setting in protracted displacement.
  • Experience in policy and advocacy work, experience in external coordination including humanitarian and development donors, experience leading technical proposals in the Education sector and co-chairing external working groups is an asset. 
  • Experience engaging with and building strategic partnerships with various stakeholders, including civil society and national authorities.
  • Experience working with displacement-affected populations and experience in middle-income or high-income humanitarian contexts.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with data collection and analysis. 
  • Knowledge of the context in Jordan and/or neighbouring or similar countries.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal. Proficiency in Arabic is an asset.

What we offer:

  • Duty station: Amman (Amman is an accompanied/ family duty station)
  • Contract: 12 months with possibility of extension.
  • Travel: 30% within the country.
  • Salary/benefits: Grade 9 on NRC’s Jordan national salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions
