Médecins Sans Frontières is running a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, which opened in 2006, is giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic and maxillo-facial) to war wounded people providing comprehensive health cares, MSF aims at identifying and referring patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts) then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

Médecins Sans Frontières Reconstructive Surgery program in Amman and is seeking recruitment of Specialized Doctor/ Anesthetist, for daily worker and emergencies.

 

DIMENSON OF THE PROJECT:

  • Reconstructive Surgery Hospital (RSH) with an average of 600 admissions per year,
  • Over 1000 surgeries annually, 
  •  50 surgical beds and  69 rehabilitation beds.
  • 2 OTs for orthopaedic, maxillo-facial and plastic surgeries,
  • OPD within average of 600 consultations / month 
  • Physiotherapy, 3D and Psychosocial departments, and a microbiology laboratory within the hospital with an Antibiotic Stewardship Program

 

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

  • Organize and carry out anesthetic medical activities, according to MSF policies, protocols, and universal hygiene standards and in close collaboration with the surgeon and other medical staff.
  • Increase the knowledge and practical skills of the anesthetic staff through the job training and knowledge transfer to ensure the quality of care provided to patients.

 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Carry out pre-operative consultations evaluating the risks of operating in collaboration with the surgeon, providing the patient with appropriate information and deciding the type of anesthetics to be used, to ensure the best conditions prior to the surgery. Carry-out all anesthesia related activities during surgery to ensure safe, adequate anesthesia.  
  • Preparing beforehand the drugs, material, and equipment required.
  • Administering and maintaining anesthetics following the rules of hygiene and asepsis in force.
  • Monitoring patients throughout the intervention.
  • Ensure transfer of patients to the recovery room, and full recovery of the patient’s consciousness and set analgesic protocol
  • Postoperative round with clear advice on care wards with the surgeon, including fluid management, oxygenation monitoring and airway care and chest physiotherapy and mobilization, with special focus on patient’s pain relief during the recovering process.
  • Conduct anesthesia clinics for initial patient assessments and pain management planning. Lead regular pain management rounds in coordination with the relevant departments.
  • Implement and supervise hygiene rules, procedures and MSF protocols in OT/recovery, anesthesia material (decontamination, sterilization, storage conditions, etc.) to ensure the safety and protection of patients and staff.
  • Supervise the OT pharmacy (drugs orders, inventories, expired drugs) and ensure OT register, consumptions, empty phials of narcotics, ensuring adequate stock is maintained.
  • Ensure good functioning and maintenance of OT equipment (oxygen extractor, ventilation, equipment, etc.)
  • Organize the tasks of personnel under his/her responsibility and participate in and carry-out other team management activities (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, motivation, internal/external communication, etc.), to ensure having the appropriate team in terms of size, capabilities and skills.
  • Collaborate with other departments in the project (responding to accident emergency department requests, intervening in support of other services when needed, etc.), and participate in any emergency activity or exploratory mission, to support the overall MSF project with his/her expertise and capabilities.
  • Ensure proper fulfillment of administrative procedures and documents (fill in of patients’ files, forms, statistics, data base, etc.), and elaborate regular reporting about results, proceedings and problematic situations and cases, to have updated and correct information about the day-to-day activity in the project and support decision-taking.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Required: diploma in Anesthesia specialty recognized by the State
  • Required: Formal and recognized post graduate training in Anesthesia with Jordanian board certification
  • Mandatory: Registration with the Jordan Medical Association as Specialized Doctor/ Anesthetist
  • Mandatory: Holding active license to practice as Anesthetist in Jordan by Ministry of Health
  • Two years of professional experience in a similar position
  • Experience in regional anesthesia and pain management protocols including neuropathic and chronic pain management is preferred
  • Experience in INT surgery with oral & nasal intubation by fiberoptic is preferred
  • Experience in working in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) & MSF desirable
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Arabic is required.

WORK LOCATION:  Amman - Al Mowasah hospital - Northern Marka

CONTRACT: For temporary support, no contract will be signed, and payment will be based on the number of days performed at an hourly rate.

Probable start date: Request will be upon need
