Location: Amman, Roving

Job Summary

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Specialist will play a pivotal role in planning, implementing, and monitoring mental health and psychosocial support programs. The candidate will work closely with the MHPSS team to ensure the highest quality of care is provided to affected populations in a vulnerable host community. This role requires expertise in mental health and psychosocial support, program development, capacity building, research, supervision, and coordination with various stakeholders, quality assurance, and auditing.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities: 

     1. Program Planning and Implementation:

  • Develop, plan, and implement comprehensive MHPSS programs that align with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to integrate mental health and psychosocial support within the overall health sector, particularly at the primary health care level

     2. Capacity Building:

  • Provide training and guidance to MHPSS staff, health care professionals, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance their skills and knowledge in mental health and psychosocial support.
  • Facilitate workshops, seminars, and training sessions to strengthen the capacity of MHPSS teams.

     3. Clinical Expertise:

  • Offer advanced clinical expertise in mental health assessment, contribute in diagnosis, treatment planning, and intervention implementation for individuals and groups.
  • Support the development and maintenance of clinical protocols and guidelines for mental health services.

    4. Community Engagement:

  • Engage with communities to raise awareness about mental health issues, reduce stigma, and promote understanding and acceptance of mental health services.
  • Work closely with communities to develop contextually appropriate mental health and psychosocial support programs

   5. Integration Across Sectors:

  • Work on integrating MHPSS within health sectors at the primary health care level and specifically on maternal mental health and youth adolescent health programs.
  • Collaborate with other sectors such as social protection and education to ensure a holistic approach to mental health support.

  6. Supervision:

  • Supervise MHPSS clinics and locations across Jordan, ensuring quality service delivery and adherence to established standards and protocols.

   7. Research, Quality Assurance ,and Auditing:

  • Conduct research and related activities to contribute to the advancement of mental health and psychosocial support knowledge and practices.
  • Implement and oversee quality assurance mechanisms, including regular audits to ensure adherence to established standards and protocols.

   

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in psychiatric Mental health, Psychiatry, Psychiatric Nursing and Clinical Psychology.
  • Professional license or certification
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring mental health and psychosocial support programs. Experience in a humanitarian or development setting will be given priority.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory role in MHPSS.
  • Proven experience in capacity building, training, and mentoring mental health professionals and teams.
  • Excellent knowledge in pharmaceutical and psychotherapy interventions
  • Experience in research is given priority.
  • Experience in children, youth, and maternal mental health is given priority.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of MH and PSS principles, pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, best practices, and global guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and innovatively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Leadership skills to guide teams and foster a positive working environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in challenging and dynamic environments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and using technology for program monitoring and evaluation.
