Background:

The Jordan Public Financial Management Activity (PFMA) aims to work in partnership with USAID/Jordan and the Government of Jordan (GOJ) to improve Jordan’s revenue system and enhance their budget management process. PFMA will build the capacity of the Jordanian Ministry of Finance and other government institutions to modernize the revenue collection system, encourage compliance—including making it easier for taxpayers to comply with tax obligations—upgrade public procurement management, and improve budget planning, preparation, and execution. Key objectives include: 1) improving the revenue raising system; 2) streamlining the budget management process; 3) optimizing public expenditure management; and 4) implementing crosscutting Public Financial Management reforms such as interventions to address COVID-19. Through a combination of technical assistance, capacity building, and facilitation, tangible and measurable results are expected during the anticipated five-year duration of the activity.

Objectives:

The Accounting Intern will be responsible for carrying out specific tasks assigned by the PFM Advisor on Financial Reporting, Cash Management, International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS), and functional / accounting aspects of Government Financial Management Information System (GFMIS) enhancements.

Responsibilities:

The Accounting Intern will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Review related documentation to the tasks assigned
  • Commit to enhancing his/her own capacities through attending meetings, workshops, trainings and on the job-trainings
  • Follow up and communicate with counterparts on deliverables based on approved plans
  • Report on related progress
  • Organize for meetings and meetings logistics

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or any related field
  • Experience working with international NGOs or donors or with USAID-funded projects (preferred).
  • Verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize competing demands. Detailed and deadline oriented.
  • Possesses diplomacy, tact, and negotiating skills. Strong team player with a positive attitude. Flexible under pressure and in response to changing needs.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products.
  • Fluent in Arabic and English.
