Médecins Sans Frontières is recruiting for its project in Amman.

Full time Surgeon Assistant/ Plastic

CONTEXT

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in crisis, without discrimination regardless of race, religion, creed, or political affiliation.

Since 2006, Médecins Sans Frontières has run a reconstructive surgery program in Amman, giving access to reconstructive surgery (orthopedic, plastic, and maxillo-facial) to war-wounded patients from neighboring countries (Iraq, Yemen, Syria, and other countries with conflicts), providing comprehensive healthcare and rehabilitation during their stay in Amman, then ensuring their medical follow-up after discharge.

 

We are currently recruiting for one (1) Full time Assistant Surgeon/ Plastic.

 

DIMENSON OF THE PROJECT:

  • Reconstructive Surgery Hospital (RSH) with an average of 600 admissions per year,
  • Over 1000 surgeries annually, 
  • 72 surgical beds and 126 rehabilitation beds,
  • 2 OTs for orthopaedic, maxillo-facial and plastic surgeries,
  • OPD within average of 600 consultations / month 
  • Physiotherapy, 3D and Psychosocial departments, and a micro laboratory within the hospital with an Antibiotic Stewardship Program

 

MAIN PURPOSE:

Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries health conditions.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES :

  • Apply medical/surgical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient surgical consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
  • Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about their surgical status and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment plan to follow, checking they have understood.
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/ IDP patients, through daily visits , consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
  • Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care of the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material.
  • Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
  • Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients’ surgeries, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
  • Ensure ongoing training of the medical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
  • Knows and ensures all MSF medical/ surgical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are always followed and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
  • Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures, supervising their performance, organizing and scheduling shifts and rotations, directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.

 

PROFILE:

  • Medical Doctor diploma or degrees is required
  • Active License by Jordanian Ministry of Health
  • Registration with the Jordan Medical Association
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of clinical experience in a surgical ward, preferably involving general surgery, orthopedic surgery, maxillofacial procedures, and plastic surgery.
  • Prior exposure to pain management protocols, including the management of neuropathic pain, is highly desirable
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Jordan.
  • Demonstrates multi-cultural flexibility.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Arabic is required.
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel)

 

WORK LOCATION:          Amman - Al Mowasah Hospital.

CONTRACT:                    Fixed term contract – Full time with 100% activity rate.

Probable start date:       November 2025
