Background
The Jordan Economic Reform Activity Task Order 1 (ERA TO1) is a 5-year, $54 million program funded by USAID, which aims to support the Government of Jordan (GOJ) to prioritize and implement economic reforms. Through coordination with the GOJ, the Jordanian and international private sector, other donors, and Jordanian civil society, ERA TO 1 will (1) advance economic reforms, (2) strengthen the business enabling environment, (3) increase exports and local, regional, and international investments, and (4) respond to emerging priorities.
Investment Component
The USAID/Jordan Economic Reform Activity (ERA) is working to help stimulate growth in the Jordanian economy through assistance to the Government of Jordan and the private sector. This includes support to increase the volume of local, regional, and foreign investments in the country.
Position Description
The Market Researcher/Analyst will support ERA’s objective to enhance investment promotion and facilitation in Jordan, with a goal to advance Jordan as an attractive investment destination. The Analyst will provide critical analysis, review, and provide advisory support to the ERA project, helping to prioritize a robust potential investment opportunity based on sectors research and analysis and PPP pipeline. The Market Researcher/Analyst will report to the Investment Promotion Lead who in turn reports to the Chief of Party.
Detailed responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze macroeconomic and geopolitical events that may impact investment decisions in Jordan.
- Stay up to date with primary sectors’ trends, regulatory changes, and market developments.
- Evaluate and analyze the annual and quarterly reports of potential investment targets.
- Assess the management team, corporate governance, and overall business strategy of companies (investors) under consideration.
- Conduct sector-specific research to identify key players, competitive advantages, value proposition, and potential risks.
- Assist in the due diligence process for potential investments, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, or venture capital deals.
- Perform sensitivity analyses and scenario planning to evaluate the impact of various factors on investment outcomes.
- Utilize data analytics tools and techniques to extract insights from large datasets.
- Analyze historical market data and performance metrics to inform investment decisions.
- Prepare and present research findings, investment recommendations, and reports to senior management, investment committees, or clients.
- Assist team members in the provision of technical advisory support and capacity building to the Ministry of Investment (MoIN) and the authorities governing the special economic and development zones (such as Aqaba Special Economic Zone) sector and sub-sector investment priorities; developing tailored investment profiles (e.g., term sheets, other); improving internal systems and procedures around investment promotion and facilitation; and assisting in the development and implementation of Investment Promotion Strategies.
- Assist in investment promotion related research, training and capacity building, project development, and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the Investor Advisors to develop a local investment pipeline framework for Jordan, including public-private partnerships.
- Provide assistance to the Investment Advisors as they engage in targeted markets and sectors and build a strong pipeline of potential investors from Jordan and targeted countries such as North America and GCC.
- Research, analyze and assist the Investment Advisors to follow-up on local and International potential investors in targeted sectors.
- Provide background research on potential local and foreign investors from North America and GCC.
- Provide technical assistance to the Investment Promotion team to better solicit domestic and foreign investments.
- Assist in conducting research and identifying contacts at multinational financing mechanisms as appropriate.
- Support the investment team in the sharing of information, needs, and progress across all functions and components of ERA to implement as one team including but not limited to GESI, MEL, Communications, and all component team leads.
- Contribute to and/or lead as assigned periodic planning documents, progress, and impact reports for USAID and other partners.
- Operate with integrity and assurance of confidentiality, commitment to excellence, compliance with all USAID rules and regulations, contractual requirements, and Chemonics policies, systems, and values.
- Collaborate with other donor-funded investment promotion activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, or related field; advanced degree is preferred.
- Four years of progressive experience in data analysis, investment, business development and sectors analysis.
- Knowledge in investment promotion schemes and financing programs in Jordan.
- Experience working with USAID and other donors is preferred.
- Strong project management, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience writing business memos and business analysis strongly preferred.
- Results oriented and self-motivated to create impact.
- Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory.
Reporting
The Market Researcher/Analyst will report to the Investment Promotion Team Lead.
Location of Assignment
The Market Researcher/Analyst will be based in the project’s office in Amman, Jordan.
