Job Purpose

The IB Science Lab Technician is responsible for managing and facilitating practical science learning experiences for Middle School students according to the International Baccalaureate curriculum. The role requires expertise in laboratory work, ensuring a safe, engaging, and inquiry-based environment where students can apply scientific concepts through hands-on experiments. The lab teacher collaborates closely with subject teachers, provides technical support, and ensures the lab operates efficiently while upholding safety standards and best practices.

  Roles & Responsibilities

• Acting as a science lab expert, guiding students and teachers in conducting experiments safely and effectively.
• Planning and preparing hands-on investigations that align with IB inquiry-based learning principles.
• Overseeing and supervising students during laboratory sessions, ensuring they understand safety protocols.
• Enforcing strict lab safety regulations and conducting regular safety briefings.
• Maintaining an organized, well-equipped, and clean laboratory environment.
• Managing and preparing lab materials, chemicals, and equipment ahead of practical sessions.
• Ensuring proper storage, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
• Collaborating with science teachers to develop appropriate lab activities and lesson integration.
• Training and guiding students in the correct use of laboratory tools, apparatus, and technology.
• Monitoring and assessing students’ practical skills, lab reports, and experimental understanding.
• Conducting risk assessments before experiments and ensuring emergency protocols are in place.
• Troubleshooting and maintaining lab equipment to ensure functionality.
• Assisting in science fairs, exhibitions, and extracurricular lab-related activities.
• Ensuring proper documentation and reporting of experiments, inventory, and incidents.
• Participating in departmental meetings, IB training, and professional development opportunities.
• Supporting teachers by providing demonstrations and technical guidance when needed.
• Carrying out other lab-related responsibilities as assigned by the school administration.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a Science field (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related).
• Experience in managing school science labs and implementing IB methodologies is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of lab safety protocols and risk assessment procedures.
• Proficiency in handling laboratory equipment, chemicals, and technology-based science tools.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills with students and staff.
• Ability to demonstrate experiments, troubleshoot issues, and guide students effectively.
• High organizational skills with attention to inventory management and equipment maintenance.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to dynamic classroom environments.
• Bilingual proficiency (Arabic & English).
• Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in science education.
