The Job

Developing public policies for advancing the status of women and gender equality in Jordan, creating a database and a national observatory on issues of discrimination against women, setting national and international indicators, contributing to conducting research and studies related to the status of women, preparing policy papers, following up on recommendations of international conventions on women, and preparing national, regional and international reports and contributing to reviewing the Jordanian legislation and its amendments, following up and evaluating the implementation of the National Strategy for Women and the JNCW’s internal strategy and achievements. In addition, setting the strategic steps of JNCW in the cooperation with all units and the Planning Committee.

 

Key Duties and responsibilities:

 

  1. Prepare agreements and memorandums of understanding to cooperate with the concerned authorities in coordination with the Legal and Economic team of JNCW.
  2. Establish a database and maintain a national observatory on issues of discrimination against women and set national and international indicators.
  3. Prepare national, regional and international reports.
  4. Follow up on data collection and indicators related to women, and supervise the preparation of international reports and policy papers on the status of Jordanian women and the gender gap.
  5. Follow up on the implementation of the National Strategy for Women, and evaluate its achievements.
  6. Publish priority research and studies that lead to empowering and strengthening the role of women in all fields.
  7. Participate and interact with national events concerned with women's issues, their human rights and others.
  8. Coordinate with governmental and non-governmental institutions, donors and international organizations.
  9. Feed the information center at JNCW and document all strategies, studies, research and indicators related to and affecting the reality of women in Jordan, as well as supervise the management of the library
  10. Cooperate and coordinate with local agencies and institutions concerned with the production of gender-responsive statistical data.
  11. Contribute to monitoring and reviewing discrimination from a gender perspective in Jordanian legislation in terms of promoting justice and equality. Develop a list of JNCW’s demands on gender-related legislation.
  12. Supervise the coordination of the work of networks, coalitions, coordinating committees, and teams operating under the umbrella of the National Committee concerned with the empowerment and integration of gender in governmental and non-governmental plans, programs, and policies.
  13. Coordinate and develop communication channels between the unit and other organizational units.
  14. Prepare financial budgets and the implementation plan for the unit so that it is results-oriented and in line with the strategic plan of the General Secretariat and the objectives and tasks of JNCW.
  15. Participate in reviewing and updating the National Strategy for Women and the Strategic Plan of the National Committee for Women's Affairs.
  16. Carry out any tasks assigned by the Secretary General that falls within the scope of work.

 

 

Academic Qualifications

Basic

  • Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Law or any related discipline

Desirable

  • Master's degree in Sociology, Management, Women's Studies, or any related discipline.

Experience

Basic

8 years of practical experience in the field of gender equality and women empowerment

Desirable

Specialized expertise in preparing policy papers, studies, research and strategic planning.

Technical knowledge and skills

  • Knowledge of public policies and national strategies related to women.
  • Knowledge of developing operational strategic plans, follow-up and evaluation based on results.
  • Knowledge of regional and international legislation and conventions on women's issues, gender equality and in the field of human rights.
  • Knowledge of preparing national and international reports.

Administrative knowledge and skills

Knowledge in the field of work

  • Familiarity with the work of JNCW
  • Knowledge of recent developments and methodologies in the field of work

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency in related computer applications.
  • Communicate efficiently in both languages.

Language Skills

  • Full proficiency in Arabic and English speaking and writing.
  • Ability to conduct research and studies in both Arabic and English
  • Writing reports and correspondences in both Arabic and English
