LWF Jordan is one of the 25 country programs managed by LWF World Service. This initiative has been operational in Jordan since 2013, serving the community for over a decade.   1. Job Purpose

 

The Communications & Advocacy Officer role supports the Head of Policy and Advocacy in carrying out the communications and advocacy objectives of the secretariat. This role plays a key part in raising the external profile of the organisation, delivering effective advocacy, and ensuring internal coherence across communications initiatives.

 

The officer will be employed by the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), based in LWF’s offices in Amman and seconded to ICVA. The selected candidate will report to the LWF Country Director for all HR and administrative matters, and technically to ICVA’s Head of Policy and Advocacy

  1. Summary of Role

 

This cross functional role is expected to support in the implementation of the Policy, Advocacy & Communications strategy for ICVA in line with the objectives of ICVA’s 2023 strategy. The Communications & Advocacy Officer will disseminate information, publications and research with our network and work to support the Head of Policy & Advocacy in raising the external profile of ICVA. The Communications & Advocacy Officer, while reporting directly to the head of unit, is expected to work collaboratively to support all of ICVA’s functions.

You’ll work at the intersection of humanitarian policy and communications, helping shape narratives that influence global decision-making and amplify the voices of NGOs around the world.   1. Main Duties and Responsibilities

Implementation of ICVA strategy

  • Support the development of communication plans for key ICVA products (Bulletin, Website, Social Media channels) that aligns to the Policy, Advocacy and Communications strategy and showcases the work of the secretariat
  • Assists in developing key messages about ICVAs work and progress against the strategic objectives
  • Communicates externally on the work of the secretariat
  • Supports internal communications processes
  • Ensure all comms outputs align with ICVA branding

Coordination and communication

  • Works cross functionally to support ICVA staff with disseminating information
  • Drafts communications plans to determine timing and scope of messages
  • Supports all of ICVAs work streams in communicating events, publications and research
  • Is central point of contact for and holds the database for key communications suppliers such as interpreters, translators and designers and website hosts
  • Prepares social media content for review and publication
  • Keep ICVA website and social media content up to date
  • Support in the drafting and dissemination of the monthly bulletin
  • Supports in the planning and rollout of advocacy campaigns
  • Support in the drafting, editing layout and dissemination of Annual report, ICVA publications and ICVA brochures
  • Supports in the planning and logistics of online and inperson events as required

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Professional Standards:

The LWF and LWF workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the Code of Conduct as well as the Core Humanitarian Standard and relevant LWF policies such as Protection from Sexual Abuse, Exploitation and Harassment (PSEAH), Child Protection and Gender Justice Policy. The staff member must conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to the LWF and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.

 

 

  1. Requirements

Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in communication, ideally in humanitarian sector at international, regional, or national level.
  • Experience working with or for NGOs or NGO networks in communications

Qualification & Education

  • University degree in communications/ journalism or relevant.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Wordpress, canva or adobe indesign, social media tools, web design, and video editing

Essential Knowledge& Skills

  • Understanding of how to synthesize and communicate complex information for different audiencesAbility to navigate complex political environments and tailor communications to different stakeholder sensitivities Knowledge of the humanitarian system and the ability to communicate the role of NGOs effectively
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written in English
  • Good understanding of the UN humanitarian system
  • Proven ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to create vibrant, engaging content.
  • Strong project management skills - Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines with different teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders including media, donors, and partner organizations

 

 Desirable knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of other UN languages an asset
  • Experience in evaluating communications effectiveness and using analytics tools to inform strategy
