This is to announce that Amman delegation has a vacancy for an Analysis & Evidence Specialist at the Protection Department in Amman, Jordan.
Under the supervision of the Senior A&E Analysist for the Search team, the A&E Specialist contributes to clarifying the fate and whereabouts of persons missing in relation to the conflicts in Syria since 2011. She or He assists in the processing, analysis, and managing of the caseload linked to the Syria Missing File.
General duties

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Senior Analysis & Evidence Specialist, the Analysis & Evidence Specialist:
- Analyses and connects large data sets from different sources (text, maps/GIS info, videos, photos etc.)
- Supports the evaluation of external data sets and open-source information (quality, relevance, credibility).
- May be asked to present the results of the analysis with visuals / graphs for delegations.
- Contributes to mapping external data and open-source information (OSI).
- Requests internal database extractions of identified smaller caseloads to be revised by the Search team.
- Filters and analyzes the extractions to further select the cases meeting the criteria defined by the Search team.
- Shares proposals with A&E colleagues for modifications to the existing internal database data entry procedures, to improve and facilitate the caseload revision and analysis according to the defined methodology, in coordination with the Search team.
- May be asked to people manage junior A&E specialists.
Additionally, She / He supports the Search team through analyzing the Syria Missing caseload on the internal database, and internal PFL data by:
- Overseeing the data extraction, cleaning, manipulating, analyzing, and visualizing of all relevant data for a quantitative analysis of the Syria Missing caseload, according to the specific criteria defined by the Search team.
- Developing visually impactful dashboards and reports to help the Search team analyze the different identified sub-caseloads (per area of disappearance, per date, per perpetrator etc.).
- Developing and documenting SQL queries to facilitate large and automatic data extraction from the internal data base.
- Extracting and importing information using an API from external sources of information (OSI – ACLED, INSO, etc.), to use for analysis that may be relevant for the caseload & analysis exercise.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understands and supervises the Performance Management & Development (PMD) activities for employees under their supervision
- Makes sure that deadlines for the PMD cycle are met
- Engages in ongoing and continuous feedback and support, particularly for employees under their supervision, but also other staff members
- Organizes regular meetings within their team to ensure optimal coordination of the work and proper flow of information
- Ensures that job descriptions for employees under their supervision are up to date; seeks feedback and support from the HR Department if needed
- Plans and coordinates the annual leave of the employees under their supervision ensuring continuity of the operations throughout the year and making sure that there are no outstanding holiday balances at the end of the year
- Coordinates and supports the employees under their supervision in their personal development by coaching and advising them on internal and external training and development possibilities
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- University degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytical Science, Information Analysis, Intelligent Analysis, Software Development, GIS, or another analytical/quantitative related field. Candidates with experience in Social Sciences, Criminology, IHL/IHR or equivalent law enforcement attested education may also be considered.
- Very good command of English and Arabic.
- Experience in qualitative analysis, statistical analysis, coding languages and mapping software like Nvivo, SPSS, STATA, R, SQL, Python, ArcGIS.
- Strong analytical skills, familiarity with open-source research, and comfortable working with, and visualising, big data sets.
- Typically, 6-9 years of professional experience in data analysis, needs assessments, monitoring & evaluation, situation and problem analysis, operational information management, results-based management, humanitarian analysis, or a closely related area.
- Humanitarian experience in ICRC, Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement, UN agencies or NGOs.
- Proven field experience in supporting surveys, multiple assessments in countries, including the design, data collection and analysis.
- Ideally, previous experience with ICRC or in Protection, and/or Protection of Family Links (PFL) and/or experience with Prot6 database data management and analysis.
- Experience in analysing, interpreting, and presenting information for decision making.
- Ideally, experience in participating in the design and implementation of one type of program such as EcoSec, WatHab, Prot, Health or WeC.
